It’s been five years since Lamborghini first unveiled their Hybrid SUV concept – Urus – at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. Since then it’s been waning between remaining a viable but ultimately unrealised vision – like the mythical Estoque super saloon – or a full-fledged addition to the Lambo stable.
In 2013 more hints that the Italian super-car maker was serious about the Urus came from then Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann who said the company’s future plans were very much in-line with a high-performance SUV in its offer.
Via an interview with Digital Trends, Lamborghini’s current CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that production of the überSUV will begin in April 2017, with prototype test vehicles rolling off the line first. Production of customer-bound examples be underway by July 2017 :: Read the full article »»»»

Lotus Cars – that other Brit sports car maker – has announced the commencement of track testing on it’s Evora 414E Range Extended Hybrid Electric Concept. Testing is taking place at the company’s RAF Hethel track in Norfolk.
Lotus says it’s devoloping the 414E Hybrid to showcase the company’s new developments in plug-in, range-extended electric propulsion, new electronic technologies to enhance driver involvement. We reckon just wow would have been a sufficient reason. Anyone who’s driven the Karts that Lotus turns out will recognise the potential for superfast, extra-sporty electric hybrid racing.
From the outside it looks like Lotus has been evolving, lightening and tightening vehicles since the Elise specifically for this latest batch of low to the ground, corner loving karts. In 414E, Lotus Engineering has developed a highly efficient, high performance drivetrain system consisting of twin motors each limited providing 155 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque to each wheel :: Read the full article »»»»

Apparently your either a fan or hater? The Mercedes Benz 4 door coupé…
I concede, I’m a huge fan!
Mercedes calls it an “almost production standard” concept that will make a bold statement when it goes on sale, though expect the Style Coupé’s dramatic exterior and interior to be toned down at least partially for the model that will reach Australian showrooms in early 2013:: Read the full article »»»»

Those crazy Europeans love green! seriously, they’re into it . . . while the rest of the galaxy ponders the thought of green, the Europeans are splashing out. The European Commission’s President, José Manuel Durao Barroso, unvieled the ubercool electric vehicle – HIRIKO – in late January. The superneat four-wheel traction and direction, haptic steering wheel and folds up when parking, electric micro-car is according to President José Barroso “… an answer to the crisis”.
Unlike their North American counterparts, European auto-makers have long been associated with smart, small, simple runabouts. In urban centers with narrow winding lanes, small has always made perfect sense. Most Europeans rarely drive the vast distances where a car the size of Texas comes into it’s own.
A consortium of seven companies from Spain’s Basque country have teamed up with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – MIT – Media Lab, and have taken small, smart and simple to extremes.
The prototype of this electric wiz was unveiled on January 24th by José Manuel Barroso, the president of the European Commssion, who climbed into the car, gave a thumbs-up, and called it a “systematic solution to major societal challenges”. The two-door Hiriko, whose name derives from the Basque word for “city” or “urban”, was designed by MIT engineers, but built by Basques. Starting next year, a trial manufacturing run is set to begin at Vitoria Gasteiz, outside Bilbao. Read the full article »»»»

The marriage of Nissan and Renault has seen the pair produce some pretty nifty crossover designs, this however has to take the cake. This combination, hybridization of two diametrically opposed design houses has worked out rather nicely, thank you very much. Nissan in it’s effort to stay ahead of the current dullness out there in the motoring world is building two Juke-R concept cars. The tiny pocket rockets will be kitted with an all-wheel-drive drive-train and a heart stopping 480 bhp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, the same motor hiding inside the Nissan GT-R supercar, ouch. The cars are being built by RML for Nissan Technical Centre for Europe (NTC-E) with a view to testing the public’s reaction to a seriously sporty Juke. CONSIDER IT TESTED! Juke-R is all I want for Christmas thanks!

Peugeot, hmmm, they’ve always made a decent enough Looking automobile, a little lacking perhaps on the reliability front – Peugeot Drivers Be Quiet, servicing your car EVERY month isn’t normal – aside from that little nugget, if don’t fit into a slimline blue pencil skirt or loafers and cardigans, they’ve never really been inspiring. Adding to that image, Peugeot has released pix of it’s latest concept, the VeLV.

Land Rover owners are an odd breed – I know this because I too suffer this disease – they tend to NOT embrace change, until of course it’s here, then they spout the wonders of good British design. Model changes are a rare thing for the ubercool off-roader. When they do happen, purests around the globe tend to get all vocal over how the brand is being watered down and spout 1000 non-nonsensical reasons why Land Rover should hold on to her old values. Of course the newer models are the best though, built tonka truck tough, with a brilliant eye for aesthetics, blah blah blah.
As an avid admirer and indeed driver of Land Rover, I’m excited at the idea of an evolved new version, and evolution is precisely what Land Rover has just unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show – Die Hards Turn Away Now! – Land Rover has just taken the wraps off its already controversial DC100 Concept in Frankfurt :: Read the full article »»»»
