It’s been five years since Lamborghini first unveiled their Hybrid SUV concept – Urus – at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. Since then it’s been waning between remaining a viable but ultimately unrealised vision – like the mythical Estoque super saloon – or a full-fledged addition to the Lambo stable.
In 2013 more hints that the Italian super-car maker was serious about the Urus came from then Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann who said the company’s future plans were very much in-line with a high-performance SUV in its offer.
Via an interview with Digital Trends, Lamborghini’s current CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that production of the überSUV will begin in April 2017, with prototype test vehicles rolling off the line first. Production of customer-bound examples be underway by July 2017 :: Read the full article »»»»

Apple has us all – consumers – in its pocket, well, we have Apple in all our pockets …you got what I mean!? Now apparently the consumer behemoth aims to have us in it on the road. The company is set to release its first car in 2019, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal’s Daisuke Wakabayashi.
Apple is referring to the idea as a “committed project” internally, the WSJ report says. According to sources the company plans on tripling the number of folk working on the project.
The initiative, being called Project Titan, so far consists of 600 people.
Although many reports have suggested that Apple is working on a self-driving car, the company’s first vehicle is more likely to not be fully autonomous Wakabayashi wrote, citing sources familiar with the project.
A quick trawl through LinkdIn also dragged a surprise, Apple has headed hunted a senior Tesla exec :: Read the full article »»»»

The 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show hasn’t even kicked off yet, but already there’s a contender for best in show. Porsche’s reveal of its stunning Mission E Concept is a show stopping, drop dead gorgeous, über-fast-charging, all-electric supercar that Porsche reckons will clock the Nürburgring in under 8 minutes, and while it might scream around the 20 odd kilometres of the Nordschleife, what this vehicle shows us very quietly is the future shape of automotive form and function.
Mission E concept is by far the cleanest design to hit the podium to date, very Porsche, but also very predictive of shapes to come. Loaded with plus numbers, 800 volt, 440kW-600hp, 0-100kmh in 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 250kmh and a range of 500km …and perhaps a cheeky nudging at the only other cool spark on the block ‘Lookout Tesla’ :: Read the full article »»»»

First previewed last September, Mercedes-Benz Australia has finally unveiled the new GT S to local punters. The biturbo 4.0 litre V8, two seater coupé – subtly replacing the now legendary SLS – has styling and specs set to take on allcomers.
The goal? …to take on its Stuttgart rival, Porsche, specifically the iconic 911 GT3. This coupé is impressive, very impressive, and competitively priced to boot – the SLS was a smidge over $AU500,ooo, this incarnation lands in Oz for a smidge under $AU300,ooo.
For my liking, the only downside is that Australia will miss out on the base Model GT, Mercedes Benz Australia instead opting for the fully loaded version :: Read the full article »»»»

A former UK cop turned vigilante, who was last month ordered to stop undertaking citizen’s arrests on Uber drivers, is now trying to have the hire car service’s discount arm, UberX, banned in New South Wales.
Russell Howarth was targeting “unlicensed” UberX drivers for months, before Uber successfully obtained an injunction from the Supreme Court preventing him from doing so.
In response, lawyers acting on behalf of Mr Howarth and the Australian Taxi Drivers Association (ATDA) filed a cross-claim, seeking an injunction that would have UberX declared illegal across the state.
The injunction would not impact other Uber services like UberTAXI or UberBLACK, which do not breach state regulations :: Read the full article »»»»
