The legendary car from the ’80s movie is ”electrified” and takes a spin through Italy.

Wired magazine’s Italy edition has taken its DeLorean DMC-12 into the future.
The conversion of the legendary vehicle, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Back to the Future film, was started several weeks ago as a way to honor the movie and to get people talking about future energy sources.
The team has been documenting the project as a feature on its website, and yesterday celebrated the sweet silence of the newly installed 90 kilowatt engine and custom-designed lithium-ion batteries coming to life. Then it was time to hit the road.”This is all real future, not back to the future,” said Wired ItalyFeatures Editor Massimiliano Ferramondo.
The date chosen for the unveiling was not random: Oct. 25, the same day Marty travels back (and forward) in time in the film. The team set off from Milan on a three-day trip toward the Rome Film Festival. Along the way, they’ll stop in towns where Universal Pictures will show a digitally remastered version ofBack to the Future.
Want to follow their progress? There’s a handy GPS-connected map embedded on the website, as well as aconstantly updated Twitter feed.  “Riding through Tuscany on a DeLorean gone electric is quite a thrill.” Once in Rome, the car will remain on display until Nov. 3.2010 That is, if the Libyans don’t get to it first.
